Free Agent Rights
I promised Gene Ross I would write a response about why I felt I prefer to be quoted through my blog posts as opposed to an off the cuff interview. Your post of "'The Samurai' today" perfectly illustrates my point. What I finally got out of this blogging other than more traffic was an articulated thought out response to my point of view. What I learned after my post yesterday is that what is sorely lacking in this business is a) a real voice from talent and b) an diplomatic solution to the problems at hand. It's actually a lot harder to write a thought out on my blog than an off the cuff interview with emotional and financial intentions. This blog got way more attention than I thought it would. That's a good thing and a bad thing. I guess there are things that need to be said.
To say I have to fight the urge to go back to L A is just not true. In fact I came to the conclusion about 6 months ago L.A. hardcore in it's current form is just not my scene any more. It's obvious that any opportunities upward in this industry only exist outside of that system at this point. That doesn't mean I quit. I tried that and it's very true that you are married to this shit for life. I'm not going anywhere, besides you can't run away from who you are.
As I progress as a writer provocation as a tactic can easily become a tool. But so does thought out articulation. A lack of that is exactly why we are getting our asses handed to us by the state of California. We can go on and on about agencies and Manwin takeovers all we want but if a true diplomatic process is not engaged by us we will inevitably be kicked around from state to state or underground if the current platform by the FSC is maintained. By "us" I mean talent. The days of allowing the existing power infrastructure to dictate the direction we follow are soon coming to an end. Any layperson viewing from the outside can see that. If we don't assert our point of view and present them in a way that can be understood by lawmakers and the public and help implement a solution that works for all parties involved, organizations like AHF and the FSC will always be able to feast on us at will. Constant negative trashing of each other only reinforces their belief in us as a bunch of uneducated disrespectful whores with no self control. That only feeds into theirs and the public's perception of us.
Porn producers and agencies don't threaten you with blackmail. They employ the tactics of exclusion from working. If you have a concern or complaint to issue to a general manager or director they will agree with you face to face but you better believe those calls for work will stop coming in. It never used to be that way. Giving a heads up to a potential problem was a matter of course for most performers. Now terms like 'problem' 'temperamental' and 'diva' are used to describe anyone that dares critique or raise concerns. The powers that be have made sure that anyone with backbone and a little self esteem are excluded. Corporate culling of the flock is rampant and honest savages like me don't fit into their agenda. The ability to navigate ourselves has been lost and in my case I missed the producer boat so I've come to the conclusion that I'm not one of the cool kids anymore. But that's no reason to keep quiet. I'm married to this business so I'm going to follow through my way. And my way is the talents' way.
Two things are obvious in the condom debate to me. One is that the condom-less model of production has been set in the market. The other is checks and balances beyond regular STD testing are also needed. I find it hard to believe that something as trite as condoms have brought us to this point. Seriously, this is some insulting shit. There is a definite underlying message that's being sent out to us by the state that has further implications beyond what we do with our bodies. This is personal. This says what we have been conveying to the public as a population is that we don't conduct ourselves like professionals. And when we allow so many outside influences to direct our own bodies we aren't professionals. We're just pawns for someone else's agenda, pro or anti porn.
Which brings me to my point. We have no platform. To give credit to Michael Weinstein, he ran an excellent campaign. He found a message that stuck and he never let up on his message. We in the porn community can learn from this. Half-assed free speech arguments that have already been fought and won before most of us were even born won't work now . Larry Flynt didn't fight for our right to trash our communities or each other. He fought for our right to conduct our kind of business in a free market capitalist society. We won and we've been running that train at 100mph for 30 years now and it just ran out of fuel my friends.
What we need is a check and balance in our system. And my idea to both Los Angeles and Las Vegas is to incorporate what Las Vegas already has in place for it's adult oriented workers. A clearance from the police department and a business license from the secretary of state. And I have to give credit for this idea to my only conversation with Rob Black. He made a point that really stuck with me. Weed out the hacks from the serious entertainers. It won't be a very popular idea within the porn community at first but we seem to be running out of options at the moment. We're getting slapped around like punks right now by the state and if we can't come back with a real solution we will all have to book trips to Budapest to shoot things our way. It's not that far out of a possibility. We're already seen as squatters in Los Angeles. Why not legitimize ourselves and fight for inclusion into the cities infrastructure and entertainment industry? This would be our way of saying we want the right to choose to shoot without condoms but we also recognize the reality that this is a responsibility. The porn industry attracts a lot outsiders that don't fully respect that this is a business and not a dumping ground. That would save a lot of money and time for the authorities as well as recognize the right of the performer to dictate the terms of their job. Inclusion gives us rights we don't currently enjoy. It gives us protection from predatory agents and producers as well as allow the performers the right to push their own boundaries as far as they want. It also says that we recognize and respect the authority of the city we want to do business in. We as pornographers have a tendency to push boundaries. And we've obviously pushed too far. I think what Los Angeles and the state of California want is a show of respect from us through diplomatic means. It shows that we are professional entertainers and not the common perception of us as an out of control population of feral animals. That's what we sell to the public and that's fine, but business is business and we have to start acting like a business.
So if I were to start a platform that I think would solve 3/4 of the problems in this business it would be FREE AGENT RIGHTS. No more 20% discounts on our scenes. No more activist attacks. Full protection by the system. Full inclusion as serious entertainers. Full protection as free market enterprisers. Full respect period. That would be an industry I would be comfortable existing in. FREE AGENT RIGHTS for all performers. Think about it. It's all about respect. We all want respect. We have to earn it ourselves.
My Comments on the Porn Pundits
Mike South: the first thing I would like to say is Thanks Mike! You speak on behalf of the talent and anybody who does that on a regular basis is someone I can sit and have a beer with right now. His expose' on Manwin has validated mine and a lot of other talent perceptions of the major goings on in this business. Ones thing's for sure, THEY ARE NOT FUCKING PORNOGRAPHERS!!! In fact, they're the furthest thing from it. Amateur directors, amateur staff more concerned with corporate ass kissing than running a set. I remember when sets were chill, fun places to be on and now its a vibe of fake smiles (please don't fire me) and gay politics. I'll rip these clowns apart further down the road.
Rob Black: The only reason he sounds crazy is the truth about the porn industry really is that insane and maddening.... He's a fucking soldier. Honesty has my respect right now so keep going and remember that the closer you get to the truth, the more you will be fucked with by the powers that be. Trust me I know I've been pushed out to the fringes for simply being a stand up guy in porn.
Adult FYI: Mostly ambulance chasing reporting in the past ,Gene Ross has elevated his post to exposing the rats, thieves and scum that have stolen the industry from the performers. Good Job.
I don't want to give the impression that I agree with everything they say. Hell, I don't even agree with everything I've posted in the past. But a healthy dose of honesty is needed right now. The ugly truth always causes controversy. It makes a mess. But the last I heard we live in a democracy, so I can say whatever the fuck I want...
AVN/XBIZ: Just middle of the road trade publications who don't really rock the boat. Other than the condom fight, every things ok to them.
Mark Ashley R.I.P.
There you go hows that for an attention getter? I'm still here but a lot of time has passed since my last blog entry and a lot of shit has happened both in the porn industry and for me personally. First, I'd like to shout out to most of the girls I've had the privilege to share a set with. I owe my career to the many requests from amazing female talent to have me on set with them. I have some of the best memories because of you. Thank you and god bless.
The reason I'm starting today with Mark Ashley R.I.P. is I'm saying goodbye to the old Mark Ashley. Not the adult performer part of myself, but the politician that used to make nice with everybody to stay working. Fuck that shit...
I have been paying a lot more attention to the porn business and press elements of this industry and I have to say this: I HEAR MIKE SOUTH, ROB BLACK and ADULT FYI loud and clear. I will heed Rob's challenge for a top performer to speak out to the industry. I really don't know where to start. My feelings about how this industry has changed is this - It has turned into a cluster fuck, circular firing squad led by a fraudulent talent association that uses an agency license to hide behind manipulating and bullying the adult talent into being submissive robots and backed by a monolithic shell corporation bent on stealing everybody's work, dreams and sacrifices. I'm going to leave it at that for now. My back is against the wall and I'll have a lot more to say, believe me. Stay tuned - NO MORE MR NICE GUY!
Kagney-Lynn Carter Gets Sodomized on the Hood of a Car
Kagney-Lynn Carter Gets Sodomized
Tonight, Kagney-Lynn Carter Gets Sodomized. I had a fun seen for the upcoming Brazzers movie "A Day in the Valley". I got to play a grease ball gangster (I like that) that blackmails the blackmailer into hard anal on the hood of a car. First of all I'd like to give props to my costar in this scene - Kagney-Lynn Carter. I worked with her a few years ago when she first got in the business for New Sensations, and I knew right away this girl was special. This was my first anal scene with her and it was an amazing scene we did, as usual we have great chemistry together!! I'm very grateful she put me on her anal YES list! I grovelled between her thighs like I usually do with such a fine woman like her. Her curves are amazing, her face is beautiful and she puts a lot of natural passion into her scenes.
Kagney-Lynn Carter Gets Sodomized
Thanks to the Director for hiring wicked talent and pulling decent acting out of me on this one. We did a second and third day of filming just to get all the acting parts. I hope this turns into a continuing series, it was a fun xxx experience. I ope you enjoyed this blog about Kagney-Lynn Carter Gets Sodomized.

AIM (Adult Industry Healthcare) RIP
Adult Industry Healthcare (AIM) was back in the news yesterday with the unfortunate circumstances that lead to them being shut down. I've used them and relied on them for years as an adult actor and have always seen them as an integral part in keeping us safe. For the record regarding all the drama around their demise, they've saved my ass on 3 different occasions from being exposed to HIV. How shutting them down will make anyone safer is beyond me. It's funny how they remain so focused on the few that contracted HIV and shed no light on the fact that thousands of us have NOT been exposed to the virus thanks to AIM's testing protocols.
My opinion on the condom debate that is surrounding AIM's closure - we live in the United States of America where grown men can willingly pummel each other bloody in an octagon or a ring for live and televised public entertainment, where BMX and motocross riders can do back flips (and yes, get seriously injured or die sometimes) among the dozens of other risky occupations that exist in this world (have you seen last season's Deadliest Catch?). How in the context of all this can two legally consenting adults not make their own decision to get tested and do a condomless scene? Nothing in life is perfectly safe, and fortune favors the brave.
I find Michael Weinstein's of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) stance on condom use to be patronizing and ignorant of the facts. First of all, his mis-characterization of us talent being these helpless victims I find patently offensive. Has Michael Weinstein or Shelly Lubbin ever considered that these girls are grown adults who may understand and accept the risk and responsibilities of their profession? Just because Shelly only lasted 12 scenes and became bitter doesn't mean she has to hold it against the (condomless) adult industry. Face it Shelly, a lot of women in this business are a lot tougher than you. To the contrary of Michael Weinstein's opinion, I don't need ignorant industry outsiders trying to impose their sexual morality on me. One important thing we should be asking the "well intentioned" Mr. Weinstein is how come you have never mentioned anything about the differences in the testing protocol between straight and gay porn sets. It seems he has a personal agenda with straight adult performers.
You can find out more by clicking here to read an article about the shut down of AIM.
Aim Healthcare Open for Business Again
After repeated vitriolic attacks from a former porn "star" Shelley Lubben (how 12 scenes over 15 years ago amounts to her being an authority on the adult industry is beyond me) and condom use zealot Michael Weinstein (whose more concerned with imposing his personal viewpoint on our lifestyle than educating the public as to how, why, where, and when people contract the HIV virus) Aim Healthcare has opened for business again. They were shut down due to concerns brought about by Michael Weinstein regarding condom use on porn sets.
For those of you who don't know, Aim Healthcare is the main testing clinic for adult performers (part of being a porn star is we get tested every 30 days - you know freedom isn't free). They are the adult industry testing clinic I've been using for a decade that screens all performers for STDs and HIV. They are an invaluable aspect of a career porn star. Anybody who lies and misrepresents the facts on a clinic that does a very necessary thing, which is test all adult performers, they end up actually putting the performers at high risk with their political shinaningans. Grow up, get over it, people fuck.
Mark Ashley Wins Unsung Male Performer Award at the AVN Award Show 2011
Since I didn't have an opportunity to appear personally at the 2011 AVN Award show this year for receiving the "Unsung Male Performer" Award this year, I'd like to a moment thank the editors and staff at AVN (Adult Video News) for their recognition of my contribution to the adult video industry. A special congrats to my brother in smut Johnni Darkko of Evil Angel for his "Best Ethnic-Themed Release - Asian: Asian Fucking Nation 4". I'd also like to congratulate the other award winners and nominees this year as well. I look forward to an even better 2011. Fuck on!
John Leslie R.I.P.
One of my favorite directors died yesterday. Both as a performer and a viewer, I've been a fan of his work for years. His "Fresh Meat" and "Voyeur" series were classic. I'm proud to say I gave him one of the best scenes of my career on his last movie 2 weeks ago. My condolences to his family. I'll miss working with him. Being one of his principle male talent was a priviledge and an honor.
